The Gloucester Old Spots breed originated in the Vale of Berkeley in Gloucestershire, U.K. where it thrived on windfall apples in orchards and whey from Gloucester and other cattle. This sow, at the Cotswold Farm Park in the U.K., exhibits a number of black spots similar to animals in the past. In recent years, the trend has been to select for animals with only a few black spots.
