John T.Mills has been appointed as the first Artist in Residence at Rare Breeds Canada.

His mandate will be to use art as a means of involving and educating the public about rare and endangered breeds of farm animals in Canada, to help ensure their survival.

He intends to examine rare breeds through the eyes of painters, sculptors, photographers, fibre artists, authors and others to produce images and descriptions to characterise the unique nature of each breed.
